Located nearby Sapa town in Lao Cai, Fansipan mountain – the roof of Indochina, with the height of 3,143m, is one of the most famous destinations for travelers to visit.

The Fansipan mountain is located in the Southwest of Sapa town, Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province. It belongs to the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, lies in the Northwest of Vietnam and in the border of 2 provinces: Lao Cai and Lai Chau. Waiting for the tourists on the top of Fansipan mountain is the spectacular scenery, breathtaking view of clouds on Hoang Lien mountains and the life of ethnic minorities in the Northwest area.

Myriad creatures in Fansipan mountain
Plants appear variously along the high to low altitudes: The lowest place on the mountain is the place for jackfruit tree, cotton tree (Bombax ceiba), Pterocarya; the area underneath 700m are covered by extremely vast rainforest with tangled vines; from the height of 700m to more than 2000m is the land of gymnosperms (seed-bearing plants) like fokienia, pine tree; and from 2,800m to the peak is home to short Phyllostachys (25-30cm high), and some species of the genus rose, chrysanthemums and so on. Besides, climbers can see several types of wonderfully beautiful orchids and wildflowers along the way, especially in spring.
Before the appearance of cable cars, getting to the roof of Indochina was a tough challenge, sometimes was the dream of many people. However, Thanks to the development of Vietnamese tourism and services, now it only takes you about 15 -30 minutes to get to the top of the Fansipan instead of 1-2 days hiking through the mountain slope in the old way which is quite rough and unsuitable for who want to get to the mountaintop but doesn’t have a good health.
Fansipan cable cars
Getting to the mountaintop by cable cars will open a wide range scene of majestic jungles and nature on the mountain slope, combined with the beauty of the terrace fields under your feet. Sometimes you will find yourself deep in the fog, then the mountain suddenly appears in front of you. The rest of the trip is about 600 steps to reach the top, where you will stand in the very top of Indochina. Here you will have a chance to stand among and admire the paradise of white clouds floating covering the mountains.
Currently, the price of traveling by cable car to the top of Fansipan is 600.000 VND per person, 400.000 VND for children whose height is from 1m-1m3, free for children under 1m. This is quite worth the money to spend when you decided to get to the “Indochina roof”.
